WEA NBCT Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA)Brought to you by the Chairs of the Soundview NBCT Committee: Desiree Sumers & Shasta ChristensenCourse Description The WEA NBCT Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA) is a unique professional development program designed to support and empower educators to become leaders in their profession, improve student learning and, ultimately, strengthen public education. Through the TLA, a cohort of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) will work together to better understand the role of teacher leadership in public education, examine pressing issues affecting student learning, improve their skills in working with adult learners, and address a problem of practice. NBCTs will also explore key National Board Renewal and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) processes required to remain a board-certified teacher. The TLA is composed of six sessions, each one designed to lead educators through experiences and conversations that develop their capacity as teacher leaders in three areas: policy, instructional, and association leadership. The course series is grounded in the Teacher Leadership Institute (TLI) competencies-www.teacherleadershipinstitute.org-and connected the following aspects of the Profile of Professional Growth embedded in the National Board Renewal process -http://www.nbpts.org/wp-content/uploads/PPG.pdf )
